1 Week 5 Assignment: Rubric Development Chamberlain University College of Nursing NR537: Assessment and Evaluation in Education Dr DATE Rubric Development
2 The use of rubrics in education are beneficial for both the student and the educator. For students, rubrics identify requirements and expectations for the assignment. When an assignment has been submitted and graded, a copy of the rubric that reflects the student’s grade is also helpful for the student understand the basis upon which their grade was received and areas in which they can improve for future assignments. For educators, a rubric serves as a guide to evaluate students’ work. It identifies criteria against which to grade the assignments and a provides a framework for consistent grading (Benson et al., 2022). This assignment will identify and describe a written learning activity to be completed by the learner. Two learning outcomes for the written learning activity will also be identified along with a completed grading rubric. Description of Learning Activity This learning activity known as the competency evaluation activity (CEA) is designed for fourth semester associate degree nursing students in an academic setting who are enrolled in a Nursing Health Alterations course. This CEA will allow them to interpret patient data within a case study to determine a diagnosis, pathophysiology of identified diagnosis, and apply the nursing process. Completion of this CEA will allow the learner to apply critical thinking, acquired knowledge, and assessment skills that will be used in future nursing practice. The scenario for this assignment involves a patient who presents with signs and symptoms consistent with fat embolism syndrome after sustaining a left femur fracture. Learning Activity For this CEA, the learner will be given a patient scenario and create an individualized nursing plan for the patient that identifies the pathophysiology of the patient diagnosis including prognosis and treatment options, and application of the nursing process including assessment, planning, intervention, teaching, and evaluation strategies. The learner will use a minimum of four sources other than the
3 textbook to research and apply information about the concepts used for this CEA. A title page and reference page will be included. This learning activity is worth 200 points. Learning Outcomes (LO) To successfully complete this learning activity, the learner will: 1. Identify the correct diagnosis and components of pathophysiology. 2. Correctly interpret patient data and appropriately apply the nursing process. Content and Format Criteria for Learning Activity The following content criteria will be used in development of this CEA: 1. Identify the correct patient diagnosis based upon symptoms and assessment data. (LO 1) a. Identify relevant symptoms and subjective/objective assessment data b. Identify correct diagnosis 2. Identify and define each component of the pathophysiology of the patient’s diagnosis including a definition of the condition, what causes it, how it’s diagnosed, treatment options, and a likely prognosis. (LO 1) a. Define diagnosed condition b. Identify common causes of the condition c. Identify and define diagnostic studies used to diagnose condition d. Identify treatment options e. Determine likely prognosis for a patient diagnosed with identified condition 3. Apply nursing process to assess and interpret patient data, develop a plan of care with appropriate goals, identify nursing interventions to achieve goals, apply appropriate patient teaching, and implement evaluation strategies. (LO 2)
